Google has newly released a feature for Android devices that is Nearby Share. This is a new feature that can be used to perform file transfers. As we know, the Indian government has banned a lot of Chinese apps and share it was one such quite a popular app, which we all use to file transfers.

Here is the step by step guide on how to get nearby share to your device and how you can enable it on your device and share files as well.

  1. Click on the download link provided below, and you go to the browser. You will see Google Play services, and you have to enroll in the beta program for Google Play services.
  2. Click on become a tester, and this will eventually get you into the beta testing program.
  3. It shows a message welcome to the testing program.
  4. Now, you have to just update the Play services app on your phone.
  5. In the Play Store, you will see the Play services beta app, and all you have to do is just click on it.
  6. You will get a join option, just click on it, and then you will see the message you are a beta tester.
  7. You will get an update option, and you have to just click on the update.
  8. Let the update get entirely downloaded and installed, and then you have to just reboot your smartphone.
  9. So, once your smartphone has updated and it has restarted completely, then you have to go into the settings.
  10. Go to the Google tab, and it will take you to your account page.
  11. You have to go into device connections, and this is common for every device.
  12. There you will see nearby sharing, click on that, and you are good to go.

In the nearby sharing menu, you can select the visibility like all contacts, some contacts, or as per your wish. You can choose the method on how you want to transfer the files, so you have got three options as data Wi-Fi only, offline, or completely offline.

This is quite a great initiative by Google. Sharing the files using it is quite easy. You have to make sure that your Bluetooth, location, and Wi-Fi are ON. Then just click on the share button in your gallery and then the scroll down for the nearby share and choose that option. It will start searching for the other devices in your vicinity.

Right now, this feature is in beta stage. All the Android devices will receive it, but it will be a staged rollout. The nearby share will be updated via Play services. You will not get updates from your manufacturer like other OEM updates. It will be directly through the Google Play System update will get that nearby sharing feature on your device.
