For some years, Google, like most phone manufacturers, has been working on a smartphone with a foldable screen. The smartphone was first mentioned under the name "Pixel Fold" and was finally confirmed via a Google internal document.

Google plans to debut its first foldable smartphone before the end of 2021, according to the leaks. The Pixel Fold is expected to make a notable debut during the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro announcement conference.

According to XDA Developers, a new clue reveals that Google is about to release its first smartphone with a foldable screen: Android 12.1. While Android 13 was supposed to be the successor to Android 12, Google is planning a one-time Android 12.1 mid-cycle release.

This comes as a surprise as the business hasn't provided a one-time update for its operating system since Android Oreo 8.1, which was released four years ago.

Thanks to a reliable source, the media was able to get its hands on a version of Android 12.1 just before the final release of Android 12. This update contains a slew of new features targeted at making foldable smartphones more user-friendly.

A two-pane interface, quick settings divided into two sections (perfect for large foldable screens), and a lock screen divided into two are among the features. Many alternatives, in general, are compatible with phones that have a two-part screen.

The impending launch of the Pixel Fold would have encouraged Google to execute these changes almost immediately rather than wait for Android 13. This is why the Mountain View company chose to create Android 12.1. This solution eliminates the need for the foldable smartphone's launch to be postponed.

According to XDA Developers, the Pixel Fold will almost certainly run Android 12.1 when it arrives on the market. We'll keep you updated on Google's first foldable as soon as possible. While you wait for additional details, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
